There is a fair house buildid yn the midle of this streat for accomptes to be made yn.
Minns says:- In the early part of the 14th century the Church of St. Cross or Holy Rood, as above mentioned, was removed from the middle of the High Street to its present position, after which the Audit House was erected on the ancient site of the church. Notices of it occur in 1457. In 1771 the building being no longer fit and modern requirements demanding its removal from the High Street, the present Audit House was built.
